Rock Photographer

mhw-jess-ontable

No, not a ROCK and ROLL photographer, but a photographer of rocks and minerals and fossils too…    this is my dear elder daughter and her two passions come together as ONE….  geology and photography!

Jess really gets into her work…   even climbing up on the table and all just to get that perfect shot!

mhw-rocks-kit

Doesn’t she do a nice job?   She is photographing all her rocks and minerals for her website… www.RocksMineralsandFossilsforKids.com.   These are some new offerings she has added, including a gallery of one of a kind specimens.  I’m very proud of her.

mhw-rocks-pyrite

This is one of the nicest specimens in the gallery… it’s a piece of rock that is encrusted with teeny little pyrite crystals all over it and it’s from Ft. Wayne Indiana!!!   Which is kinda weird because I lived in Ft. Wayne for quite a while and a lot of  my family does too…  and I don’t remember any mines in Ft. Wayne….   something to look into, that’s for sure!

nhw-rocksteeny

This is a cool new product…. she’s offering an one pound bag of teeny semi-precious stones that you can use to spread through your children’s sandbox…. and as they play and dig they will discover these teeny tiny little treasures…. great for building those small motor skills, eh?  And it’s so reasonably priced, like $8 for this bag…   how cool is that?   I think a bag of this and you could get yourself a WHOLE afternoon of content kids digging and sifting and finding lost treasure!!!   That’s my kind of kid activity!!!!

Of course, Luna thinks the studio is for her.   Because EVERYTHING is for Luna, right?

The Stove is GONE!

Yeah!  The nasty old stove is gone!!!

Goodbye!!!!

mhw-stove1

When we moved into the moby, we were so excited… there was stove there already! Yeah!

And the burners worked.. so we were excited and just kinda didn’t think about it much until we were actually living in the place and found out that the oven was broke. And bad.  And the man said it was messed up inside and he wouldn’t recommend even using the burners… which we did, but carefully, for awhile.

We used the inside for storage, but it was pretty bad for that.   Not very efficient at all.   And we bought a decent big toaster oven, countertop dude that to be honest, we fell in love with.

We even cooked a small turkey in it at Thanksgiving!

Of course, we had to flatted him a little bit, but hey, it cooks all sorts of stuff, baked goodies, breaks, meats, roasts, everything.  And it’s pretty efficient too.

So I got to thinking…   do I really need a big new stove?

We’d been now almost 7 months without one and never really found it to be a problem.  It’s just the three of us… and we like to use our other appliances too… like our COOL rice steam cooker, the ever faithful crockpot and of course the microwave and our big George Foreman grill…  and then in the other three seasons, we love to grill outside…   so……  I decided that it was time to get rid of the stove, and put in a piece of countertop and get some shelves under there until I can redo the kitchen the way I want to…. new cabinets and counters and sink and all… someday… maybe later in the year!

mhw-stove2

Okay… wow… yucky big hole now and like 30 years of nasty stuff!   Don’t look anyone!!!!  Kitty, save yourself!!! Run!!!

mhw-stove3

Oh… much better now.  Cleaned out and waiting for a cabinet or perhaps a little cheapy interim shelf.

And I got a piece of the laminate countertop that I want ultimately for my kitchen redo…. it’s so pretty, this black granite looking stuff.

mhw-stove4

Can’t wait to get rid of those old old nasty cabinets and get some new or gently used cabinets to go in there.   I measured it all… it’s a perfect fit for three 36″ standard cabinets!  How cool is that?   And I already picked out my new sink…. I don’t want a huge double sink, just a nice sized single sink.   I want more counter space, not just gapping big hole for MORE dishes to stack up space!

It’s still a work in progress… but I am SO happy to be rid of the big ugly broken unsafe stove!!!   I feel better now.  (g)

Don’t you?

Moby Has Some New Flooring!!!!

WE FINALLY GOT FLOORING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MOBY!!!

Yes, it’s been ah, well, ah, like 6 months… or is that 8 months since we started this whole adventure that we’ve been living with painted plywood floors in the middle room of the moby!

Every time I got close to having the money saved up… something would rob it from us.  Something broke, some bill would come in, whatever.   Never failed.

It wasn’t too bad living with the painted floors, but they were hard to keep clean…  and the paint was chipping and I just hated them.

mhw-carpet1

But, that’s where good wishing and positive thinking come in.

And, of course, Ty and Frank.

Ty is the manager of the theater that we use for our Glass City Opry.  He’s such a cool guy!   We love Ty!

He called me and said he wanted me to think about helping out Frank.

So I met with Frank… and he’s a singer that is putting on a show in May all about his own ability to sing Frank Sinatra songs, like the other Frank would do.  How cool.

And guess what?

He’s a flooring specialist at Lowes.

My favorite place!!!

So he needed help with graphic arts and flyers and all that about his show.  I needed a piece of carpet and a piece of vinyl.

We’re both happy happy campers now!!!!    And I am just SO happy and thankful that all the pieces in my flooring puzzle are now complete!!!  It’s SO purdy!  I just love it and can’t stop looking at it when I walk through there or hang out… it’s just so nice…

Good things DO come to those who wait!!!

Here’s the adventure in pictures!!!!

It took us two days to do it… first the carpeting and then the vinyl.

mhw-carpet2

Jessy being silly and doing the WE HAVE FLOORS interpretive dance of joy.

mhw-carpet3

Everything ended up in my room…. how did that happen?

mhw-carpet4

Okay, some stuff got piled up on the desks….

mhw-carpet5

I prayed that no police officer would catch my zany drive home two miles…  my new old van’s latch in the back doesn’t open, so I didn’t have many choices….   good thing I didn’t need the 15 foot stuff!  HAHAHAHA

mhw-carpet6

Oh, how purdy…..   it’s just so purdy….  it makes me almost cry!

mhw-carpet7

Okay, that was one day.   Gypsy apparently approves of the new walking surface.

mhw-vinyl1

Okay… it’s vinyl day!

Move everything over to the other side of the moby great room!

mhw-vinyl2

Unwrap the little wrapper on the stuff….

mhw-vinyl3

And start laying it down! This is a really cool new flooring that is a no glue, fiberglass embedded flooring that is really cool.  You can use a little double stick tape at high traffic areas and around floor vents to keep it snug, but other than that, it’s thick and lays nice and flat.   And it’s durn purdy, too.

mhw-vinyl4

Goodbye YUCKY plywood painted floors!!!  GOODBYE!!!!

mhw-vinyl5

Almost looks like REAL wood, don’t it?

Nothing but the finest in fake wood for my mobile home.

mhw-vinyl6

There was just a teeny little ripple in the material and it eased out within an hour.   You can just faintly see it running near that sunlight area on the right hand side.   Other than that, it was not at all creased or worrisome at ALL!  Neat stuff…..

mhw-vinyl7

Doesn’t it look nice, and the floor vent was easy to trim out and fit.

mhw-vinyl8

We put that old oriental rug under the desk area to protect the floor from rollers of our desk chairs and such.   It says that the floor can handle that, but I kinda think it looks really nice with that rug there…  works with the light browns and neutrals and the peanut butter walls and the black and white accents…. very nice.

mhw-vinyl9

The wow factor is HUGE… Everyone that walks in is surprised how nice it looks.

Especially those that have become accustomed to the old plywood and thought it would never get finished!!!  HAHAHA…. (Like me?)  But even those that didn’t even know, has said “wow, this looks really nice…”

People don’t know what to expect in a moby, you know.

I guess they figure that everyone in a moby has to use like 70’s old garage sale stuff and little cheapy figurines and Nascar stuff.

Well, not here.   Not in our Moby.

mhw-vinyl10

It’s SOOOOO nice!!!

Thanks Frank!!!!!

Here’s Frank’s new website…www.FrankWeaverSings.com

It’s still getting worked on… but still… it’s getting there!   He’s a happy boy!   I’m a happy girl!   Everyone is happy!

Even Gypsy.   She hated walking on the slippery plywood and we had to lay rugs all over for the old lady.   Now she can go just about anywhere in the moby and loves to look out the low windows at the stuff outside and woof a lot more.

She’s happy too.
