Second Build Day on the Fort

Well Dad came over with the girls and he and Maggie got started on the fort again.  It’s Day 2…. unfortunately, it’s been raining all day long!   They went to lunch and came back, since it was lightly raining…  not quite as bad as it had been before…   they managed to get the main side wall built and partially covered.

They have a lot of plans… it’s pretty cool. I actually went out to visit a bit and see what was going on and I got to stand in the fort and it’s tall enough for me to stand up in and actually not a bad space. About 6 foot by 8 foot. She is going to have a hoot. Decorating it with Maggie stuff and just having a little place to hang out in. Read, draw, etc. Watch her birds and all.

I got to thinking too…. when she tires of it (which might take awhile) it would be a COOL little chicken coop! How cool would that be… or like a little extra storage for tools, etc. So it’s a good thing…

She was a little bummed that the rain was holding them up… you can tell… Moms know these things…. and then I found her outside sitting in the fort looking at the rain… poor thing! It’s hard waiting for cool stuff when you’re a kid.

Nice Clean Desk

Doesn’t seem to get this way often, but I managed to clean off my drafting table and desk and really work hard at getting a place for everything and everything in it’s place.  I seem to work a lot more productively when I don’t have a zillion piles of this and that all over the place.   Spent some time and sorted papers and stashed stuff in my little cart under the table… I like stuff clean and simple…

Maggie and Dad are building a fort

I guess Maggie missed something in her growing up years between the house we lost and now, the Moby and turning 15.  I guess, that yeah, from 10 to 15 are prime fort building times.   But we were just not in the right place to build a fort.  So for her birthday last week… she asked for a fort.

More like a bird blind, hideout, place to read, get-away from us, kinda place.   A place of her own.  So, she’s getting to build a fort with her Dad.  I think it’s pretty cool.

They rented the hourly truck from Lowes, since the Lumi was dead and gone to the shop.  Poor Lumi… she should be back by Wednesday if all goes well.

And loaded it up with some 2 x 4s and sheets of plywood and some other goodies.

Almost smushed some of the pumpkin babies in their volcano mounds!   Yikes!  Watch out!  We need some little flags or something to mark the gardens all over!

Here’s the official before shot of the shed.

They will be extending the roof on the side and building a little 6 x 8 foot addition to the side of the shed.   I figure that eventually when she gets tired of her little space, in a few years, I can use it to store like seasonal things in totes or bikes or whatever… so it’s a good thing.  And the concret pad that the shed sits on, is extended on the side, so it’s actually perfect.   LIke it was meant to be.

They got pretty far in just one day.   Dad helped Maggie learn the finer arts of drilling and cutting and measuring twice and all that stuff.   Maggie is pretty handy with power tools of late… she’s getting pretty good at building stuff.

They are going to shingle it and add walls and little peep holes, etc.   Maggie wants to be able to sit in there quietly and lure birds in for more closer photography.  I’m sure we will be seeing some really nice pictures sooner than later from her.

They should be getting a lot more done during the week…  they went with their Dad back to his crib for a couple days and will come back on Wednesday to do more to the fort… it’s looking pretty cool….
