Another Gig Night….

Well, had another good gig last night at the Romulus Coonhunters… I say good gig because it was fun, I always enjoy picking with the guys… but it was definately on the low side of watchers! It’s the holiday weekend and a lot of people have left to go to the Northern Indiana Bluegrass Association’s big festival, in Kendalville, Indiana. I believe that including us, there was maybe 15 people. :-) We love Virgie, and her good home cooking and she fed us good, and well, bluegrass is best served up to a crowd, so that felt a little funny, but we made the best of it.

I didn’t take any photos or video… just kinda overwhelmed at the moment with all the media that I’ve taken over the last month! We had two Oprys, one client concert, and 6 Deepwater gigs… shesh! That’s a lot of audio and video and photography that I accumulated! I plan to get through most of it this weekend… right now we’re getting ready to go out and garage sale shop a little bit… we haven’t done that in a while and it sounds like fun….

Here’s a little video from the past, if you wondered what the Coonies is like… and here’s their website that I maintain for them… www.VirgiesBluegrass.com

Redbird Songwriter’s Showcase

redbird2

We had the priviledge of being the featured songwriter guests at the Redbird Songwriter’s Showcase, here in Maumee, Ohio tonight. It was slightly unusual because normally it is just a songwriter or two and since we have a whole band of songwriters… that is not as common as you might think.

Our host, Tedd Swartz, puts on this monthly listening room concert series at the Maumee Indoor Theatre, where we produce our Glass City Opry. It’s there that we met Tedd and have enjoyed his friendship over the last couple of years. We’ve kind of swayed him over to the bluegrass side of the fence a little bit here and there! I know he hasn’t had too much bluegrass at his showcases until we came along! Jeff and I had the chance to play at one a couple years ago, just as a pair of songwriters and that was fun. We knew that would be more complete to have the whole band play and when Tedd asked, we definately wanted to come.

I had a nice time… and it was delightful to hear everyone talk about the stories behind the songs. I’m a fan of history and personal history is important to me as well… and I think this kinda of media recording is important. It’s part of the history of the Deepwater Bluegrass band….

If you get a chance, you should definately go and sit in on one of these concerts. They are nice, intimate listening events… and you get to hear the “how” and “why” behind the songs… it’s a nice opportunity to learn more about songwriting, from the songwriter’s perspective. Good stuff… very encouraging as well, and an honor to be asked to come and perform!

Picking for Critters!

We had a chance to go and play for the Toledo Humane Society’s Bark in the Park walkathon on May 17th, 2009 and what a hoot that was! It was almost hard to play because I was noodlenecking all the beautiful doggies!!! I had to leave my pretty girl at home because I’m not sure she would have behaved all day without much supervision (since I was playing and all…and the girls came but they were busy looking around and shooting video and pictures and just wandering about for the most part!)

Thanks to Jessy for being out official Deepwater Bluegrass photographer of the day! We are blessed to have two great photographers for the band… Tim’s wife Erin is a professional photographer and she takes the most delicious shots of us to use on our website and promotional material… it’s wonderful.
And now Jessy… she’s in college for photography and is learning the ropes and doing a great job! She and Erin are often whispering and comparing notes and shot ideas at gigs, so sometimes we even get overlapping photo records of our events! What fun!!!

(Don’t mind the weird little bit at the end… I think my little point and shoot camera is insane… it does that sometimes at the end of videos!!! Creepy!)
