Lettering a Tow Truck…

DSC_0310

As you may or may not know, my daughter Maggie is starting up a sign business.   She loves making signs and do her vinyl decal and lettering business.  She’s still getting started and is learning all the ropes, but it’s so fun when we get a nice job to learn on and still provide some nice looking graphics and signage!

SO we were excited to be able to letter up a tow truck!   Actually, it’s a flat bed hauler.

A nice two color logo job!  I think it’s rather striking!  All ready to go… did both doors.   Putting on the vinyl is not so hard but taking off old vinyl is tricky!   Thank goodness for the old heat gun and some elbow grease!  DSC_0320

You can check out Maggie’s decal shop on Etsy…   She is still filling it up with designs, but it’s growing all the time.  It all helps this wonderful kid to develop a trade and an income.  Hands on training with your mom…  Trying to help teach her all I know!  And she’s a good learner…

Signs by Maggie – Etsy Shop – Go take a visit and a like!  Thanks!

Room Fresheners…

DSC_0133

We love these little room fresheners that plug in and scent with warm oils and such.  But at like $5 to $7 a pack, even at the Dollar Store, it was getting a little pricey.  And I don’t know, I just wanted my own blends, scents and such.

Well, golly.  That little plastic thingy just kind of pops off with a little pressure from a butter knife or a dull pair of scissors.  So I just added a little cheap vodka  (non flavored, non scented alcohol base)  and then 10 to 15 drops of essential oil.  Put it back together and plugged it in.  Perfect!  Wonderful scents and last just as long.  Even if you are not a drinker…  pure simple vodka is a cheap way to make all sorts of neat things.  Like vanilla extract, or actually any sort of extract.  And it’s good for making tinctures and such for herbs and spices.  I usually have a little bottle of it in the cupboard for various remedies.  Heck, don’t tell anyone, but I actually  blend my own perfume with a little vodka and essential oils and I’ve had many people remark that they thought I smelled very nice.  (It’s our little secret, eh?)  Well, now, my house can smell nice, too and inexpensively!

Pigs and Critters…

DSC_0134

Been trying to dry some fleece and the weather is NOT cooperating!   It still feels damp and it’s been days.  Hopefully we will have some sunshine, eventually…

The hogs escaped from their pen and had a hay day just digging up the middle yard.  Bad piggies.  They just tear up this water soaked grass looking for worms and such.  I guess we just needed a little help cleaning out the creek bottom.  It was on the list.  Of course, they didn’t stay there…   We are going to rake up the spots and put down a little grass seed.   We figured out how they got out and fixed it.  Of course, we put up hog panel around their pen, almost the whole perimeter.  Except for an area of chain link that we thought was sturdy enough.  Guess again.  I think we will be trying to get those last couple pieces of hog panel real soon.

On the sheep and goat front, however, we seem to have finally figured out how to keep them all contained.  Finally!   Everyone is behaving and I am very happy.

All our lambs are turning out to be brown!   So weird.  I wished for some brown sheep and now I have a bunch!  And the two that are coming soon are brown.  Still, the babies might start to change colors soon, they usually mature slightly differently than their baby coats are.  Time will tell!

I love this picture, it’s like Shadow is telling Cody, Man, don’t drink that it’s nasty.  Or Cody is looking in it at his reflection.  I think he was just about to drink and Shadow was just checking him out.  These two are funny.

Cody looks so much smaller but really, they are about an inch or two different in height at the back.  It’s just that Shadow is always the nosey buddy and has to be right up front in your space to see what is going on.  DSC_0147 DSC_0149

Awww…. Ebony and Onyx taking a nap with her babies.  And then Cheyenne’e brood shows up to hang out at Grandma’s…   I love how these American Guinea Hogs love family.  They all seem to really like being together in a little herd.  I will feel bad when some of the piglets will go on to their new homes.  But we can’t keep all 14 hogs!   That’s a wee bit too many.  Right now, they are adorable, though!  I love the little ones all running about and being mini-hogs.  They learn so fast to do what their parents are doing.  DSC_0154 DSC_0157 DSC_0160 DSC_0170

Just so cute!!!   I just love their little round bodies and how chubby they get!   Good moms!  Feeding them just right…    And I love watching them learn how to be little pigs…   they are very good at digging and rooting and doing piggie things!

The lambs are finally becoming friendly to us…  these two girls came right up to the fence to say hello.   Lambs seem to have a weird period of time that they think we are so scarey and stay far away.  But then, slowly, they begin to realize that we are givers of food and pets and treats!  And then everything changes.   We don’t mind, we know how it works and pretty soon, they will be right up with everyone, demanding attention and goodies!

I am so happy to report that Miss Bonnie is doing so well.   Her two lovely daughters are growing up nice and big and she seems to have risen in the flock hierarchy.  She’s no longer at the bottom of the rung, in fact, she seems to have gotten pushed way up and is on equal par with Iris, the sheep flock mom.  I guess having twins is a big deal to the sheep.  She is calm and content with her new position in the flock and I think it’s marvelous.   She has found her home and is claiming all that comes with it.
