Goodbye Grizelda…

DSC_0010

We were sad to find that our dear little Angora girl, Grizelda, had passed away in the night.

She was our only English Angora, and we had no idea how old she was, since she was a rescue bunny that we took in with her father two years ago.  She didn’t seem to be in ill health, but then so many small animals will hide any illness very well.

She was a spunky little sweet bunny and we will miss her.  RIP little dear…

Last Saturday… Getting Caught Up!

DSC_0699

It’s kind of amazing how much time it takes to take care of a kid with a broken leg, at least at first.  But things are getting a little more routine and her pain is being managed a whole lot better now.  We got a little time on Saturday to do a little work around the house and a few little projects and such.  Jessy and I have decided that we will try and do something outside, a day, an extra project, so we can keep up on the things that might need to be done.  So we decided to do a little lawn work and planted some flowers.

I had wanted to spend a good deal of time in our courtyard this year, cleaning it out, keeping it weedfree and introducing a lot of nice perennials…  But I’m not sure if that will happen this year.  However, being a seed hoarder, I had a whole bunch of seeds that I’ve collected here and there, so Jessy and I cleaned up the area along the courtyard fence and put down all the flower seeds we had in our stash and then covered it over with a light bit of mulch.  I hope that some of them germinate!   A few packs were pretty old, some up to ten years old, but hey, they weren’t growing in the house…  I hope it works out, it will be pretty!  Lots of neat flowers…  zinnias, snapdragons, sunflowers, moonflowers, morning glories, cockscomb, hollyhocks, and so much more!  We’ll see how it goes!

Our old microwave died a few weeks ago and we tried to get by without one, but I guess, we’re just too used to having the convenience of it.   Mostly for warming up leftovers and cups of tea, that sort of thing.  So I had resigned myself that I was going to have to go to town and visit Wallyworld for a new cheap one…  but I had gotten in the car and gone half a mile down the road and some fine folks in our village were having a garage sale and they had a perfectly wonderful little microwave for $20!!!  Yahoo!    Saved at least $30 and the gas to go to town!  They also had a cheap little guitar for $5…  it’s not really very playable, but I’ve always wanted to mosaic an old one for the garden or something…  so I got a fun little summer art project, too.

Jessy and I got the front all mowed and some weeding done…  still need to work on the jungle of the front part…  but we just ran out of steam.  I would just love to rip it alllllll out and start over with some nice shrubbery and perennials, but not right now.  It will be one of our projects through the next couple weeks.  DSC_0702

We moved a bunch of logs that the electrical company left us after they worked on some of the trees at the front of the property.  And mowed the side yard and cleaned that all up around the salad bar fence.  Looking nice and green for sure!

Steve brought out a old pair of stairs that he ripped out of an old deck at his new house.  I’m really not sure who paints their decks orange, but hey, everyone has their own tastes, I suppose!  haha…   We are going to put them back by the lil’ coop as chicken tv bleachers!  We might paint them eventually…

Here is where we put all the flower seeds!    I hope we get a nice display!  It would be nice to see them all growing and blooming.  There is chicken wire on the back so that the hoofies can’t just nibble it all away.

Harrison, the lamb, is going to his new home this Friday… with SaroJane.  We will have only two lambs left for sale after that.   They are growing up so nicely!   He is a nice boy…

Gee, I wondered why we were running out of bird food pretty fast.

I guess it’s these darn pintobirds…

And Cody has a lot of freeloaders to help feed apparently…

I thought it was out of his reach.   Apparently not!

Little Lilly is the kitten that we are going to keep from the litter we raised.  We’ve been bringing her in the house to start to learn us and the rules and such… and of course, for Kitty Therapy for Maggie!!  She is such a cutie!   Apparently they call these tiger/calico kitties “Torbies”.  She is really adorable.

Maggie is doing pretty good now…  she had a rough day on Tuesday, with a check up and having the staples from her surgery removed.  But it’s all healing well, so that was good.  Still some swelling and pain for sure, but this first week is done and we’re getting into the second week and it’s been much much better so far!  Thank you so for all the good wishes, cards and feed at the local feed store.  It’s been such a blessing and helps Maggie for sure!!!!   Thank you!!!!

Conversation with my Dad…

DSC_0724

It’s Father’s Day and like a million other grown kids around the world,  it was time to pick up the phone and get a little Dad time in.  I stepped outside since my darn cell phone doesn’t always like to work well in the house.  It’s a beautiful day out, just about 80 degrees, a nice breeze, just a perfect Springy Summer day that makes for a lovely little time out sitting by the fire pit, talking with your Dad.

He answers and there’s always that delightful little sound of recognition in his voice that just makes me feel like a little girl being acknowledged by her Dad…  and then of course, there is the bleating of Daisy as she runs across the back pasture, screaming “maaaaaa maaaaaaaa!” at the top of her little lungs.  We laughed because he can hear her all the way down in Florida.

Within a few bits of conversation, Copper, the rooster, begins a serenade of crows between him, Silver, Louie and Bucka Roo.  It’s like a zoo here and we laugh about it.

Baron, the cat, sees a lap that he would like to lay in and dashes across the yard.  Problem is, he’s laying there and all the sudden he relizes that it’s not ME petting his tail but Daisy sucking on it as she considers a good nap spot and he is suddenly quite disgusted and we laugh about it.

We talk about kitties and coons and how Maggie is doing, of course.  But then I notice in the back that the angora goats are on the wrong side of the fence.  How’d they do that?  I call them and just like a pair of graceful deer they leap over a short section of fence and come running like all the sheep and Cody do.  I tell my Dad and we laugh about it.

I sit down on the old truck cap in the back, where the old barn foundation is.  Within moments, a nugget chicken walks over and begins to peck at my toes!  Apparently, he’s never seen me in sandals and thinks my chubby little toes would make a good dish.   Dad hears me try and get the chicken to hit the road and we laugh about it.

DSC_0726

It’s not 5 minutes later and Merle, the lamb, decides to try and chase Baron underneath a lawn chair near my lovely chatting spot and promptly gets the lawn chair stuck on him.  He turns around with this look of confusion, ambling to me with eyes that plead, “Can you help me with this?”  and I lift off the chair, tell my Dad and we laugh about it.

I guess it’s easy to say that we laugh about a good many things.  And that’s just fine with me.  I know a lot of folks have all sorts of relationships with their parents and no one is just 100% perfect or ideal and of course, mine is not, but still, I love that we can get together, even on the phone, and just laugh about things and enjoy the moment in time we are blessed with.

And share, of course, the antics of a bunch of goofy farm animals that I swear should really have a TV reality series.  Because then everyone could laugh about it.

Happy Father’s Day!!!!!!!
