Conversation with my Dad…

It’s Father’s Day and like a million other grown kids around the world,  it was time to pick up the phone and get a little Dad time in.  I stepped outside since my darn cell phone doesn’t always like to work well in the house.  It’s a beautiful day out, just about 80 degrees, a nice breeze, just a perfect Springy Summer day that makes for a lovely little time out sitting by the fire pit, talking with your Dad.

He answers and there’s always that delightful little sound of recognition in his voice that just makes me feel like a little girl being acknowledged by her Dad…  and then of course, there is the bleating of Daisy as she runs across the back pasture, screaming “maaaaaa maaaaaaaa!” at the top of her little lungs.  We laughed because he can hear her all the way down in Florida.

Within a few bits of conversation, Copper, the rooster, begins a serenade of crows between him, Silver, Louie and Bucka Roo.  It’s like a zoo here and we laugh about it.

Baron, the cat, sees a lap that he would like to lay in and dashes across the yard.  Problem is, he’s laying there and all the sudden he relizes that it’s not ME petting his tail but Daisy sucking on it as she considers a good nap spot and he is suddenly quite disgusted and we laugh about it.

We talk about kitties and coons and how Maggie is doing, of course.  But then I notice in the back that the angora goats are on the wrong side of the fence.  How’d they do that?  I call them and just like a pair of graceful deer they leap over a short section of fence and come running like all the sheep and Cody do.  I tell my Dad and we laugh about it.

I sit down on the old truck cap in the back, where the old barn foundation is.  Within moments, a nugget chicken walks over and begins to peck at my toes!  Apparently, he’s never seen me in sandals and thinks my chubby little toes would make a good dish.   Dad hears me try and get the chicken to hit the road and we laugh about it.

It’s not 5 minutes later and Merle, the lamb, decides to try and chase Baron underneath a lawn chair near my lovely chatting spot and promptly gets the lawn chair stuck on him.  He turns around with this look of confusion, ambling to me with eyes that plead, “Can you help me with this?”  and I lift off the chair, tell my Dad and we laugh about it.

I guess it’s easy to say that we laugh about a good many things.  And that’s just fine with me.  I know a lot of folks have all sorts of relationships with their parents and no one is just 100% perfect or ideal and of course, mine is not, but still, I love that we can get together, even on the phone, and just laugh about things and enjoy the moment in time we are blessed with.

And share, of course, the antics of a bunch of goofy farm animals that I swear should really have a TV reality series.  Because then everyone could laugh about it.

Happy Father’s Day!!!!!!!
