I would love to someday build a little dwelling on the farm for me, a little get away just for me….  I really want to build a yurt and I think next spring I will give it a try.  But I also think something cute and simple like this little Irish cottage would be fun to try and build.

I would make the walls out of strawbale construction.  Just a wee bit thicker than this little crofter’s home.  But I love the thatched roof and I’m pretty sure that the roof rafters are set into the sides of the building.  Pretty easy construction.  I love the small yet plentiful windows.  It would be awesome if it were timber framed inside.  Love the half door…  so cute!

I think if you did all the work yourself pretty much, it wouldn’t be that expensive really.  Heck, I think you could probably build this with cement block and then stucco the walls, it would not be that hard.  Just lovely!  I love small houses…  I think it would be cool to have a couple little small dwellings around the homestead, as studios, or offices, or guest houses.  Or mom get aways!  (g)  Yeah….
