3 More Days

And four more sleeps…

When my children and my friend Donna’s children were little gals, and we would go up there to their farm or they would come down to our city home… the girls (all 5 of them total) were a bit too little to totally get how many days till we would leave for our visits… SO… we started to tell them… how many more bedtimes till the big event. It seemed to work better.

So our little ones would ask ALL THE TIME… “Mom, how many more sleeps?”

Well, learned today that all is on track and we will definitely close on Friday, March 25th. And we have enough cash for closing (thank goodness… haha…. shesh….) and so we’re set. Got our very preliminary plans for the first couple days..

Friday – Closing, then Celebration Lunch and then out to the farm to change the locks, drag out painting stuff and lawn chairs and whatever we can cram in Blue and the girl’s Dad’s van. We’ll be just reveling in our little place and hope to get the kitchen all prepped and ready to paint. (It’s in really pretty good shape. Just a little spackle needed and some window and trim taped out, that sort of thing…)

Saturday – Shopping trip, pick paint for kitchen, get anything we need to get started. We would be going out there, but I have a concert to attend and it would not be a good full day… girls are going to start packing some stuff that can go into storage in Jessy’s sitting room at the farm… which is our WORSE room and definitely the last to be worked on. It will become a storage spot for a while…

Sunday – Paint the kitchen!!! Yah! And get the dining room ready for paint. Maybe even the offices, if we do well. Bring over a whole wagon load of stuff. Wander about if the weather is nice. ENJOY our little bit of heaven!

Monday – Friday – ??? PAINT PAINT PAINT PAINT and oh yeah… a ton of yard work! When we are tired of painting, we will be in the yard, raking and picking up sticks and trying to get our first semi-perminant dog enclosure fence up so that we can bring our hounds with us soon.

Saturday – MAYBE move in for good. We’ll see how the progress goes. We have to have hot water and internet. Haha… something. And a really good dent on the painting. We plan to get essentially seven rooms painted and ready before we move in. 3 Bedrooms, the kitchen, the dining room and 2 offices. For a while, we are going to use the dining room as a family room. The real family room and parlor will need a little more serious work and frankly, we’re going to be very busy outside for a good month. We won’t have a lot of time to just sit around and familyize on the couch…. Those two rooms are going to be left to be rainy day rooms. They won’t take forever, but they will take a while. That and Jessy’s sitting room…

As for internet… I think we’re going to have to go to satellite for it. I am still hunting around, but there doesn’t seem to be a ready internet supplier for high speed out there. I remember seeing an ad in one of the little newspapers, but now I’m having a little trouble finding it online. There is dial up, which well, could work in a pinch. And our cell phone provider can get us on a data package, but I’m not sure at the cost of that. The house is wired with T1 plugs and there is a sat dish already installed and it doesn’t look old at all. Obviously, since we work at home and online, we need a fairly reliable option for our internet access. Could be a little bit of sticky wicket, but considering we won’t have a mortgage payment or lot rent, I think it sort of evens out the whole situation.

I am hoping that our solution doesn’t go over $100 a month though… that just seems to be a sort of high water mark for what I would want to pay for service. Right now we pay $60 in town! Ah! All the little worries! It will all be good, we’ll make it work. Heck, if it has to be dial up, it’s dial up for a bit. I can always do my heavy lifting with a laptop on town days. We have a HUGE cell tower about a half mile away, so it’s not like technology won’t catch up pretty quick.

Oh boy… well… onward! I have almost all my client work caught up. I have a couple post cards to work on, and a CD cover/credits/insert project started for a friend’s band. That’s it. I’m hoping to get that all done up tomorrow. Don’t have practice, so that means a good long work day. I need to do a little phone calling about gas hookup and also about insurance for the house/farm. Get some quotes and information ready to go. We had a nice big flush of orders today, so we’ll be working hard to get those out the door and caught up with all outgoing orders.

Ah… time for bed… need to get one more sleep outta the way!!!

  1. Ha! I love the “sleeps” idea!

I’m sure you all are so looking forward to being able to move in (I would be too). It’s great that a satellite dish is already there – hope that works out for you. We were without internet (except dialup) for almost 4 days last week and I was surprised by how much I rely on it to look things up (and I missed being able to watch movies on my laptop)! Dial up was so sloooow.

Looking forward to the “we signed the papers it’s really ours” post!

  2. Pictures, Sherri. Lots of pictures, please. (:

Hope everything goes well for you and your daughters.

  3. Hope to see a lot of pictures of the progress !!! I know you are excited !!! So am I.

  4. One route to consider is verizon wireless. It works off of cell phone towers. That is what we had to do. It runs about 50 per month for 5G. Sattielite internet is Very expensive, or so i’ve been told. It use to be about 600.00 for the equipment and hook up. Wild blue is another option. There are lots of options so not to worry. So excited for you and I have some books to mail someday. May take me awhile, I am slow, but you have plebty to do right now anyways.
    Many blessings your way,
    Chanda

  5. Hi! I recently found your blog (I don’t remember how); my husband and I homeschool our 2 teen daughters, as well. I have gone back in your posts to read about your journey, from purchasing the initial mobile home, to purchasing this one. I am thrilled for you! I am anxiously awaiting tomorrow, right along with you! As another reader mentioned (above), please include pictures. Blessings. :)
