I can’t believe it’s finally here… it seems like it’s been FOREVER since we found the place… and then all the mortgage hunting issues and then the turn downs and then raising the money ourselves and the offer process and then acceptance and now… CLOSING DAY!
Thank goodness!!! I just about could not wait any longer!!!
Today has been a crazy day for sure. Had a couple errands for clients and then after that began to work towards the closing day. I went and got a set of new door locks, mainly because of the house being a foreclosure, there are no keys! The bank doesn’t have them! So we got two locksets, keyed the same. That is nice. I also got some new spackle for the walls, and just a few supplies to get us started… some trashbags, dropcloth, paper towels and such like that. I didn’t go nuts at all, just enough to get us started tomorrow afternoon and evening.
When I got done with my errands, the girls and I took apart our little shed to discover all our tools, painting supplies and some folding chairs and such. We packed old Blue up with everything we could fit in! With the price of gas right now, we want every inch of the wagon FILLED… haha… we even put a few of our pretty rocks from the garden in the footwells of the back seat!!! Yes, every spot is filled.
Steve, the girls’ Dad, is coming over around noon with his van. He and Maggie are going to fill it up with even more stuff. He is going to be moving to a small apartment for awhile, and so he is loaning us all his tools and workhorses, etc., to use at the farm and store for him. That’s swell for sure. We can sure use them and it beats us having to go and buy things! Yeah!
Jessy and I will go and get the BIG CHECK…. haha…. A cashier’s check… Jeff called with the final figure yesterday and it was thankfully a lot less than we had guestimated! Yeah! Turns out we got a bit of a discount because the taxes and such, so that was unexpected but wonderful at the same time!
And then we will all meet at Jeff’s office to do all the paperwork and get it all finalized! I can’t believe it!
Some of the running around today and errands involved trying to get the property insured. And surprising to us… they turned us down! Said there was too much liability with their brief visit. The agent took pictures and emailed them to the underwriter and well, they said no. Dang it. Wanted us to tear down the outbuildings. And install windows in the crawl space. And fix the steps on the one porch that were nasty. Like right away or they would not issue a policy. Well, that’s not about to happen, certainly not tearing down the outbuildings!
Talked to a few friends and such and have decided that we will work on the place and get her more lived in and all, and try again. I think once we get some painting down and take care of the yard a bit more, tidy the place up, it will be a little more acceptable. And we’ll try again, until we find someone that will give us a basic little policy. We’re not looking for some huge policy but it would be nice to have liability insurance in case of a rabid squirrel attack or something falling on the house, etc. Perhaps we’ll have to have an exception in the policy that doesn’t include the outbuildings or anything in them, or something. We’ll work it out.
Worse comes to worse, and something dreadful befalls the house, we’ll just get us another little moby and start over. It does happen and people can get through these things. I totally understand that the insurance company wants easy, sure-thing properties that they can make money on when you never place claims… haha…. why not?
It’s all good. We’re totally into personal responsibility anyway, so we can handle it. After all, we still would own the land and well, that’s a good thing. And we’ll get by just fine. I suspect after it gets a good month of elbow grease and everything is green and pretty, it will be a little easier to convince them it’s in good hands!
Wow… we will be sure to take LOTS of pictures! With three photographers in our little family, you are sure to see a lot of shots! It will be part of the fun for sure!
Well I better say tootles… and hit the sack…. I know I won’t be able to sleep much, but I better pretend and see what happens!!!
Oh and a HUGE thank you to Dana! THANK YOU for the lovely books from the Amazon wish list!!!!!! Maggie has been reading the Homesteading book every spare minute!!! haha… she’s been telling me all about windmills and pigs and chickens and fences!!! haha…. thank you so much!
