When life gives you yarn…

About a week or so ago, I stumbled upon the mother lode of yarn at a thrift store!  Over 40 skeins of the stuff!!!  All different, mostly.  And get this… for a whopping $10.  25 cents a skein.  And some of it was very nice, fancy artsy yarn that I plan to use in my weaving!  I could hardly believe it.  Talk about winning the yarn lottery!   There was even a huge roll of actual weaving warp string!  How cool is that???

Some of this fancy stuff will go nicely into some rugs and weavings!!!  Can’t wait…  won’t it be delicious with black warp and some of these fancy bits???

Well, I figured with all that yarn in smallish amounts, it was about time for me to learn how to finally make granny squares!  I’ve been trying for about six months now and just couldn’t seem to get it.  And finally, after a bunch of YouTube videos and a couple websites and just a whole lot of trying and a little bit of cursing… (yeah, sorry… it was hard for me to learn!)  I finally GOT IT!!!  Yahooo!!!   So I celebrated by making a super huge one…  haha…. I think that will be the center piece of my scrappy granny square throw!  And then I’m going to make a bunch of normalish sized ones to go all around it.  I’m such a happy little crochetin’ fool!  It’s fun to learn a new skill!

  1. There is a shawl pattern that you might enjoy that is made with the same idea of the granny square but instead of making a square, you only do a triangle thing. It is super, super easy and goes quick and I make them for my granddaughter and she loves to wrap up in them during the cold winters. I can break it down for you and even do a video if you want. When you are ready, give me a yell and I will hook you up.

  2. I am so jealous. All I ever find is the normal acrylic yarn, never the fancy. I love the cotton yarns for my chemo hats I make for the cancer center. My other favorite thing to make is granny squares which I make into lap throws for the senior homes. Can’t wait to see the rugs with the fluffy’s…
