Pregnant or not…

It’s a game we’ve been playing around here.  Is that bunny expecting?  No.  Sorry.  We finally decided that the breeding did not take with Miss MoMo…  So we will have to try again later.  Her sister Tora is going to have a chance next.  We have folks waiting for lovely little pedigreed French Angora bunnies!  (And we love having baby bunnies around…)

And is Miss Bridget expecting?  We hope so!  She’s starting to get a little droopy belly…  She would be due within the next 2 to 3 weeks, if she is.  We keep hoping!   She’s our last chance to get a little cream lamb or two!  Only time will tell!

Of course, there is no more game to play with Amber, the dumped kitty that was living in our garage…    she showed us that she was indeed pregnant when she delivered eight darling little kittens on Earth Day of all days!  Oh my goodness…  eight kittens!!!

5 little boys, all ginger tigers!  And a black girl, and two calico tiger girls!  They are doing well, just finally opening their eyes and being cute little sweeties.

Of course, this was not a planned event.  In fact, I am pretty sure she was dumped off expecting.  She just showed up one day, and we thought she was a he because of some fighting we heard late at night.  We assumed he (she) was fighting with our two boys.  She was so skittish and scared, we barely saw her but late at night or very early morning, slinking about, running as soon as we tried to catch her.

Well, then one morning, Jessy was up kind of early, tending her bunnies when she was frightened by the kitty, whom we are calling Amber because of her beautiful amber eyes…  was trapped underneath the bunny potty tray!  I think she was sneaking into the mud room to get food, and then got scared and dashed under and got wedged in.  Jessy caught her and managed to get her out and into a carrier and that’s when we knew she was expecting!  Agh!

People dump cats and dogs in the country all the time.  They think, oh, they can live as a barn or farm cat somewhere.  Or just learn to be wild again, some dumb thing like that.  Instead, they end up living on the fringe of rural society, occasionally finding a decent enough home, but usually becoming feral, and or being killed by the wildlife or by residents that have no other choice.  We’ve had to take in two cats to a shelter and around here, it’s $50 a cat!  We love animals and just can’t seem to muster what it might take to do them in ourselves.  But we sure have a problem now…  we have 13 cats thanks to someone’s late night ditching.

Thank goodness that Jessy caught her.  And we’re finding now that she is very sweet, litter box trained and just loves attention.  Her babies are getting lots of holding and socialization from us all.  They are adorable.  If she hadn’t been caught and had this litter out in the woods or some corner of our garage or whatever, those kittens wouldn’t have hardly a chance.  Now, hopefully, we can find some decent homes for them.  I sure hope so.  If you want a kitten and live around us, or even kind of nearby, we’ll be happy to help you help us!  We don’t even mind a drive…  We just want these little darlings and their mother to have a good, healthy and happy life!!

So that’s the end of our game…. pregnant or not!!!   Still not sure about Bridget!!!  Crossing our fingers and hoping!!!!!   Time will tell!
