Last Outside Bath of the Year

We gave Gypsy her last outside bath of the season yesterday, and I think she knew it. She was particularly frisky and peppy about it, and when it came time to dry her off, she just danced and played with the towel like a pup. I just love when she lets me know when something feels good to her old body. Maggie does it best, but I gave it a good shot, just rubbing and wiggling her in the towel as she just pranced around and wagged her little skinny tail. Maggie told me that she does it just like her Dad used to when she was little… I smiled, it was a good memory. I remember him doing that silly Daddy bathtime ritual where he’s catch the little clean girls and do that exercise machine wiggle with the towel wrapped around them and making them giggle with delight to be tossed and turned like a washing machine. Apparently, it works with dogs too!

I know our time is limited with Gypsy, but you know, we’re just enjoying every minute we can. Just making her a part of our day, and keeping her warm and happy like a much beloved little old lady. She’ll have to get her medicated shampoo every 5 days, but it will have to be inside and a lot less fun. But that’s okay, we’ll have memories of these beautiful fall Indian summer days and giving Gypsy a wiggly towel dry in the sunshine.

Jessy’s New Website…

Awww…. I’m so proud of my big kid! She’s official… hung out her photography website shingle and is ready and willing to take on some new clients!

I just really love all the shots she picked for all the galleries on the site… be prepared to sit and look through a whole bunch of critter photography! It’s some cool stuff.

Of course, I’m biased, but I think it’s some pretty darn tasty work outta a 20 year old kid. Just wait for a few five or ten years when she really gets her chops down and pays her dues! She’ll be awesome at this! She just loves to shoot critters with her camera!

Deadliest Catch Questions…

Okay, I got questions.

First off, why the heck is this show so dang captivating when each episode is pretty much the same thing. Stick gross fishy junk in the pot, throw it in the water, complain about stuff, pull it out of the water and get rich. Oh, yeah and get hurt and icey cold. Drive the boat around, do it again. And again and again.

Okay, it could be the flu meds kicking in or the fact that I’ve just watched like 26 episodes in a row… but there is part of me that thinks, okay, why the heck am I watching this over and over and over. I mean, aside from the brief moment of mirth or silliness, it’s kinda like watching paint dry. I mean, it’s work. And we’re watching these dudes work over and over and over.

I keep waiting for like a whale to jump on deck, or maybe they catch something different in the pots… yeah… like oh, a dunno, a walrus. Something different. But nope, pretty much it’s crabs. Over and over.

Yet I watch.

And I like it, but I’m not sure why. Guess that’s why there are like 6 seasons of the things. I’m only just starting season 3. And please, I know, but don’t spoil the whole Capt’n Phil thing… I like him, and I know he’s gonna pass away but I don’t want to think about till it happens and I cry and all that. Yeah, cry, watching a show about crab fishing.

Yep.

Aside from my terrible balance and fear of heights and that kind of thing, I do believe that I could probably do that job now, since I’ve seen it done now ten thousand times. I think we should have these reality shows for all ttypes of work… though I imagine the accounting one could be a little dull… except for tax season, oh boy!

Okay, here’s the other question. SInce the legs are pretty much the only edible parts of the crabs, what do they do with the crab bodies? I mean when each ship is pulling in hundreds of thousands of pounds of crabbies… HALF of that is body and I wonder what the heck is it used for? Do they just dump it back in the sea? Do they grind it up for something? I found out enough to find that there isn’t much human editable food in the body of the crab, but still, I just can’t stop thinking about all that waste. Surely it goes to some sort of use… what?

Yeah, that’s me. Always pondering these odd ball things. Well, back to bed for a bit… I’m feeling a little blah and I just can’t wait to watch Season 3 and see 12 more hours of the same thing over and over again! Whoo hoooo!
