Woke up pretty early today for having been up the day before till 2 AM in the morning! We had a super busy Tuesday… took the girls into town to help their Dad move to his new apartment. He’s going through a divorce, and well, is now on his own for the time being. (Don’t get any ideas… he’s already got a sweetie.) But the nice thing was that he gave us back this old big solid walnut country style table that we had bought back in our early married days! And you know what? It’s perfect for our dining room.
Since he had enough helpers, I toted the table back to the farm. I stopped by at the Red Barn Furniture Store, which ironically is in the big city, not out here. Not sure about that oddity of naming… but I don’t mind because the fellow has some good deals for sure. Found him on Craigslist. I had bought a little mini frig from him a week or so ago, and it was working so well, we thought we would get another one just for pop and drinks.
Well, I got one without a shelf in the middle for $15! Yes, $15. And to be honest, the missing shelf is fine, because we can stack more beverages in there! Got it home and stocked and it’s fantastic. But as we were talking, I asked if he had any kitchen table chairs. And yes, he did… solid oak sturdy chairs… $15 each!!!! Oh my gosh. And they are a dang near perfect match in color to the big table! (Steve kept the chairs… guess he has a new table…) So I could only get 3 in the car with the table and frig, so I asked if he would hold a few more for me till next week. Well, he said not to worry… he had 150 of them!!! Apparently these came from a renovated Bob Evans restaurant! And let me tell you, Bob doesn’t buy junk. These are by far the most sturdy and strong chairs I’ve seen! I told him I was going to join the chair of the week club… every Tuesday when I go to town, I think I’ll be stopping in to get another one or two! The big table would seat 6 nicely, 8 a little close. So, I think that 3 more would be a good thing.
Well after I unloaded Blue from the day’s haul… and thinking that I did not plan that well, what with the girls being gone and poor little me having to unload a bunch of rather heavy things!!! Oh well, I managed it, persistance gets you everywhere. I checked in on the ladies and they were all just fine. So I tried to get a little short nap before I had to return to town for practice and some errands and then to get the girls later in the evening. I logged in 225 miles Tuesday, and we got home at almost 12:30 in the night! Ugh! Long long day! But it’s kind of nice to get it all done, so that today, we could take it a bit easy.
All day long we’ve had the radio on, because it’s been just a mess out there! Sever thunderstorm warnings, tornado watches, and hail… again. Three times this month! Yikes! I do not have my garden in, it’s is under water at this point, again. All around us, farmers fields are under water and big rig tractors and such are mired in the muck of their fields. It’s a mess. This has been one of the WEIRDEST springs on record! I’m not going to give up for sure, but boy, it’s just impossible to do anything much in the yard! Digging is near impossible… the mud just cakes on the shovel and every dig is just muck!
We went to look at a lawn tractor for sale, but it was way too expensive. They wanted a grand for it, and that is way too rich for our blood at this time. So defeated, Maggie and I went back over to the Sauder furniture outlet store in Archibold. What a cool place. We had gone on Monday and got a few things, a nice tall shelf for my office, and a neat tv unit for Maggie’s room and a beautiful big wall mirror… all of this, and nice new, just overrun stuff, for only $60. Just really a good deal. Well, Maggie wanted one more unit for her room and I wanted to get a piece of this really pretty counter/desk top for my desk in my office. They had a whole stack of these super nice granite looking countertops for only $6 each! Some had little flaws and such, but I easily found one that was nearly perfect. I really didn’t see anything wrong with it. Its nice and long and yet not super wide, so it will fit in the office space beautifully. Just got to figure out how to make some nice legs.
And then we came home and napped! Well, Maggie and I did, but Jessy was working on her room and jamming to the radio and it’s classic rock and weather reports. She managed to get all the rough walls covered with her primer! She has the little alcove area to do, but she ran out of primer. We’re planning a trip into Defiance tomorrow to go to Lowes and get more primer, some wood for our fence and some river rocks for this low spot in the courtyard and they have gallon perennials on sale, $3 for $10! I stopped at a local nursery today and they wanted $13 to $18 a gallon! Now, you all know that I’m totally for local and all, but shesh… $18 a plant? I just can’t do that right now. I want to get some nice color going at the front of the house and in the courtyard and 2 plants ain’t gonna cut it! (Cuz that is all I can afford at $18 a plant… apparently I have good taste in plants because all my choices were the high end stuff!!!)
We also need to go to an Officemax for some work/company stuff, and the closest one is there! And we’ve never really explored Defiance, so it’s time. It’s supposed to be all nasty and rainy cold AGAIN, so I figure we might as well spend some of it in the car getting some errands done.
Sorry I don’t have any pictures, it was so dark and bluckly today, I didn’t feel like it. I think I’m going to go and curl up with a good book, a little kitty and a cookie. We did enjoy dinner at our new dining room table and that felt lovely! We have a little more to do in there, but it appears that the dining room will be the first room completely finished!! That will be nice. Other rooms are getting there, but are a little stalled. We’re in no rush, but it will be nice to have one room all nice and pretty.
Hope everyone in this big corridor of storms is staying safe and warm!
