Dog Cookies

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to feeding my dogs treats, I think $20 a pound is a little expensive. But that’s the price I’ve been paying, even more for treats. I don’t even feed my family meat that is $20 a pound, let alone the unsavory elements of dog treats. Most of the stuff in them is weird chemicals and corn byproducts and all sorts of weird cheap elements.

But the average packet of treats is about 6 – 7 ounces only. And you seem to pay at least $3-$5 for that bag, sometimes more. At that expensive rate I would rather give them prime cuts of meat, instead of that processed junk. And if you buy locally made good treats, it can easily rise up to $6-8 for a packet of a few ounces.

The answer? Make them yourself! It’s so easy and your dogs will LOVE you for it!

We have two super easy recipes that we love to make. They are simple and quick. We will often double the recipe and share with friends. I think it’s less than a dollar or so a batch.

Woofys

1/2 cup of milk
1 egg
2 tablespoons of peanut butter
1 1/4 cup corn meal or whole wheat flour

Mix together in a bowl and stir well. Make into balls or logs or little shapes. Put in a 350 degree oven and cook for for 20-25 minutes or until crunchy

Peanut Butter Dingos

1 egg
a cup of oats
3 tablespoons of peanutbutter

Mix together until all are coated and form a dough. If you need too, add a little more oats to make it nice and cookie dough like. Use your fingers and form little small balls, and then flatten. If you want, use a fork and make those little cross marks. Cook at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. Till crunchy and your pooch can’t wait any longer!

Depending on the size of dog, you can make the cookies any size you want. We like to make our cookies with a small scoop and press them like peanut butter cookies for fun. The end up about the size of a quarter, perhaps larger.

For training treats we like to roll out the dough and use teeny little canape cutters to make them about the size of a dime. You can get hundreds of treats from one batch of dough.
