10 Cards…

I can’t believe it. I finally hit 10 cards. It’s been a goal of mine for 2 years. And I’m finally here. Tonight. 10 cards.

I’ll be honest, I was sitting here and thinking about this a bit and I think that it’s a little, well scary. I mean, I’ve reached a HUGE goal in my life! Honest… when I first started this out over 2 years ago, I was a mess! Had way too many things going on, was stressed to the max, was disappointing people when I couldn’t reach my deadlines and just had a brain full of chaos and mush! My favorite saying was that I had 42 pots on a 4 burner stove! And it was the truth.

My tried the whole multi-tasking thing and all it ever seemed to do was to make commitments and deadlines EVEN further delayed as I tried unsuccessfully to juggle 14 things at once. It only created more delays and difficulties, really.

It was reading David Allen’s book… Getting Things Done… that I began to realize that I either had to cut back, or stop taking on new projects and assignments and declutter my list and just start getting things done. So I did. And it took me 2 years.

Right now, I have 10 cards and I’m working on one this evening, about half done… creating a little video for our Hot Licks music learning system. I finished the script, recorded the voice over and tomorrow I need to make the still photos and graphics and the little bits of video that go in it. Fun stuff.

After that card, I only have 9 big projects left. A few might take a few days, but some will take weeks, or even months.

And yes, I’ll have a few “day” cards crop up, after all that’s life. I call “day cards” that because they are basically things that can be accomplished in a day, or under. You know, make something for a pot luck, or help this client out with a flyer or some sort of Moby project that needs being done. The goal is to ALWAYS stay under 12. A dozen cards. If I find myself bulking up with the day cards, then I’ll have to stop the projects and catch up. I don’t ever want to go back to having 160+ cards!!!

Maggie told me today that the reason we need the farm is so that I’ll have LOTS of new cards for my deck! HAHA… I think she’s right! Well, if it’s meant to be, it will be. I’m trying to get my noodle wrapped around that so that I’m not feeling so anxious as things drag on. It ain’t over until someone else buys that property! We won’t give up!

Anyway… I think it’s need that friends are seeing my results and starting the card system too! My business partner Rob is working on his own deck and I hope it helps him! My daughter Jessy uses it as well. There’s something very comforting knowing that everything you need to do is on a card and waiting for it’s turn, instead of floating around in your head and cluttering up your brain RAM… after all, if you’re like me, you only have so many expansion slots and memory available up there!!! I want to have room for the lovely and memorable things in life… not a to do list for a bath remodel or some big work project!!!

10 cards. Wow. 10 cards.

I feel like I won the Getter’ Done Award!!!
