Gotta Spill the Beans…

See that?

It’s going to be our Farm. We have some more hoops to clear, some financing issues and of course a professional inspection… but it’s getting closer every day.

We’re going to the bank tomorrow.

We tried an online popular mortgage lender and they were unable to help us because the cost was TOO LOW… haha…. Yeah, it’s listed at $18,900 and we have a downpayment and NO ONE ever pays the listed price. Right?

But they wanted to, just Ohio has this goofy rule that you can’t pay tooooo much interest for a mortgage. But credit is good, things are looking up. They were ready to get the paperwork started… so that is a GREAT sign!

One way or another, we’re gonna do this. My girls and I have never wanted anything more. We have been praying and planning and dreaming and visualizing and imprinting it and diagraming our ideas.

It just happened to fall in our laps… we really didn’t think this would happen till next year, but well, hey, sometimes you gotta rock when you gotta roll.

Video courtesy of Maggie!

It’s a foreclosure property, empty, and it’s 3 acres in a rural area about 40 minutes from Toledo. 1/2 mile from the main street of town and a post office and fire station! Adorable little town of 300 people. The house is 105 years old. But it’s been added to and updated, new roof, windows, ducting, kitchen and bath. It’s clean and empty, a slate ready for our creative touch.

There are several outbuildings including a one car garage, a steel barn, a poutry barn, a chicken coop, a shed, another steel building and the cutest little outhouse. One side is a bit of farm land and a train track… other side, farmers fields. Mature trees including at least 3 walnut and an apple and pear. Raspberry brambles on the back pasture hedgerow fence. A small little wood lot. Beautiful tall mature pines. It’s simple adorable.

We are so excited, it’s hard to sleep. Maggie has been plotting out fences for pastures and patched for corn and gardens. Jessy is scouting out her photography studio space and excited about the HUGE room that will be her rock headquarters. Me, I’m just so excited to finally get what my children has always wanted… a little hobby farm with room to ramble and grow and explore. (Oh yeah, did I mention there’s an awesome place for a mini bluegrass fest????)

So say a prayer, open the banker’s hearts to accept us, picture us in our little homestead. We’re not looking at some unbelievable cost, in fact, we will strive to pay it off as quickly as possible. So many amazing things have been happening the last week, I just know this is happening for a reason and we feel SO BLESSED!!! The waiting is going to be hard. But with everyone’s kind thoughts and support, we’re going to make this happen.

And don’t worry…. they allow Mobies and our beloved Moby is coming with us. We have a place for her all picked out. After all, I wouldn’t be the Mobile Home Woman without a Mobile Home, now would I?

  1. I am so excited for ya’ll !!! :) I am sending out prayers, go ahead and claim it. God is seating this up for you & the girls, I just know it !!! I know you are on cloud nine !!! Can’t wait to see what you will do to that beautiful home !!!

    • We are, we are making it ours NOW. I know that there is a Divine Hand in this whole situation, everything is falling into place so nicely and with such coloring and clarity, it’s absolutely everything we ever hoped for. It amazes me how even as we look at video or pictures we’re like…. “Oh is that…. FILL IN BLANK…. Oh my gosh, we’ve always wanted that!” We brought back with us a couple teeny pottery tiles we found in the garden area and each of us has one in our pockets! Maggie says we’re holding our farm in our hearts. She has been so animated and excited, more than I’ve ever ever seen her. Asking questions and wanting information on the process and all. It nearly makes me cry. I can’t wait for her to get her critters!!!!

  2. I just found your blog today and what a great post to read as an introduction. I will pray for you. We also bought our farm as a short sale and believe me…the bank was desperate to be rid of it but it still took two months before they decided to accept our offer. We were on needles and pins the whole time…..so hang in there.

You steel barn…is that possibly an old tobacco shed? Your kitchen has the barn beam running across the ceiling…our does too:) You will love it!

    • Hey! Thanks for stopping by!

I think it’s just a little pole barn, we don’t live in an area that is known for tobacco much, being northwestern Ohio. It’s set up with a big open area and then what looks like a tack/feed room. I think at some point there was a horse or two since there are some saddle holder-uppers in there… (homemade jobbies) We love all the little buildings and the girls are already naming and allocating them to various functions. My favorite so far is the Kitty Barn! HAHAHA We are so excited, we have to make this happen. I sure hope the bank doesn’t take too long to decide… worse comes to worse, we’ll go with the 18,900 figure because it’s really such a deal! Thanks so much for stopping in!

  3. Fantastic, I do hope you get it. One thing I have always admired about you is that you haven’t put everything on hold waiting to achieve this dream, but have prepared for it by practising your farm on a small scale on your lot & getting ready for when you do have the farm.

    • Thanks…. it is something that we’ve ALWAYS wanted… I remember with my daughters were little we would dream and imagine our little country estate and all the fun and quirky things we’d do with it… I can’t believe we’re almost there. Everything is falling into place SO NICELY, I’m just floored. I want to keep all my thoughts SO POSITIVE and make this happen.

  4. Wow, fantastic. Lots of buildings, which will translate to a lot of work, but it looks great. I see a place for your chickens! I hope you can get internet out there.

    • It does get internet! We checked! (haha… it would be hard to run the empire without a good connnection…..) Actually what is cool is that there are TI cables all over the house and in several of the rooms… not sure what it all means, but I figger it’s a step in the right direction.

  5. I am so excited for your family, I love the farm and I see lots of great post headed our way. (Can’t wait) The house as well as the out building are wonderful, Keep posting pics…
