First Storm…

DSC_0767

As you might have heard, Northwest Ohio got hit with a pretty good set of storms!  The first one was right one New Year’s Day and such…  resulting in a really good dump of snow.  Nearly 10-11 inches in our part of the world.  Pretty cold too…  into the negatives at night.

Right now, we’re in the middle of a second big storm…  which is dumping another 10+ inches of snow on our little homestead!  Wow!  Since we’ve been living in Ohio for the last 10 years pretty much (with a brief 2 year stint in lower Michigan which is pretty much nearly the same area)  we have not seen this kind of winter in a long time!   I would tell my girls about living in Muskegon as a child and the snowdrifts that would be 6+ feet tall after all the shoveling and plowing and they would not believe me!  haha…. They do now.

As you can see, our little homestead is fairing well enough, but it’s been a lot of outside shoveling and chore work to keep everyone safe and happy.  Moving animals about, making sure they have extra feed and water to help keep them comfortable has been our primary focus.  Trying to get back into a bit of a routine after the holidays, but these storms are certainly messing up schedules and plans for certain!

Enjoy a few pictures of our first storm adventure!  Will be back for more!!!

This wheelbarrow was EMPTY… and you can see how much snow has fallen!  It’s drifting and in weird patterns through the yard… there are places that you can see the grass stubble and then areas that it’s drifted up past your thigh!  Crazy!!!

We were down to just a few logs left…  waiting on a delivery of firewood!  Got a little dicey as we were waiting for them to call and they were waiting for us to call…  we were both too polite to pester!  Thankfully, our wood held out and we were able to get a good new load.   Hate to be cold in this weather….  Big Red is really working out good for us.   A lot of work, but it’s a pleasant enough job because of the savings and how nice the warm wood heat feels.
