  1. Your lily-like pink flowers that made a sudden appearance have several common names: magic lily, surprise lily, rain lily, or – many people’s favorite – naked ladies. They suddenly come into flower in mid-August right after a rain storm. And no, heavy watering with a hose doesn’t do it. Rain, two days later the stalks are shooting up and then real fast into those lovely pink flowers.

    Latin name is Lycoris squamigera

    They grow from a bulb, have daffodil-like leaves in the Spring that fade away by early summer. The bulbs are very long lived by do not like to be disturbed. So you can transplant them but it will take a couple of years before they settle down and flower again. Nice cut flower too.
