Snowmageddeon Is Here…

We’re surviving… as long as we have power, we’ll be fine in the old Moby. If we loose electric, that does get dicey because a moby holds in as much heat as a duct taped cardboard box in the middle of a field…. Yeah, that much.

I’m thinking that over the next year, a Craig’s List purchase might be a little generator. Nothing huge, just enough to keep a few lights going, furnance fan and of course, charge laptops and keep the freezer from defrosting.

But, right now? A generator is about as good as a HUGE gold bar! All the local stores are out of salt and shovels and even generators. The local grocery store was running out of basics, like milk and eggs, bread etc. We stocked up on pop and cold medicine! haha… I’m still sick, no fun. Feel a teeny bit better this evening, but still weak and all clogged up in the head, etc. Sore throat big time.

We got the plumbing issue done, and it only took 6 trips to the hardware. Yeah, 6 trips. One kind of doesn’t count because it was to return a cutter that the shop so graciously loaned us instead of having to buy one for $45! (That ain’t gonna happen at a big box place, folks… love to work with local shops!!!!) Still 5 trips was close to ridiculous, but that is how it goes it seems. I am working on how to solve it, for the next time. And there will be a next time… guaranteed. If I ever build my own home, it’s going to have hard soldered metal water piping. None of this plastic PVC crap. It gets brittle as it ages, and cracks… it’s just not very durable, so it seems to me. All that I have here at the Moby is less than 3 years old and it’s already brittle. Great!

Well, we’re keeping warm, putzing around, watching movies, reading and doing a lot of napping. At least I am. It’s wonderful to hear the wind and snow against the windows, all snug in a warm blanket and the glow of the iPad keeping me company. I do like some tech…. I want to start a Amish like community that does nearly everything without power, except for the internet/blogs and ah, email. Yeah. I could so handle oil lamps and candles, wood stoves, horses, gardening, canning and crafts as long as I could have my internet fix I would be fine. After all, the internet would be a great way to learn more of the lost crafts and to share the “way” with others through your blog and emails and such. And you could order stuff that might be hard to recreate, and share with other Internet Amish people like me. Ah, like rock kits! haha… Okay, yeah, maybe not.

Oh I guess there are lots of people doing that… they are called modern homesteaders!!! Yah! I am one of those!!! How cool. I love to belong to a group, you know.

Still waiting on the private loan situation and well, while the storm rages, there’s really not chance of getting to the new mortgage place to start on the rural development loan. So, we’ll wait till about Thursday, see how it is, hopefully I’ll be a bit more on the mend, the storm will be gone and we’ll have an answer from the personal loan. The good thing is that I doubt anyone is out there looking at homes either, not through this EPIC STORM!!!! So, it’s all good…. By Thursday we’ll know something… which way to turn.

Well take care and stay warm!!! Will check in during the AM and hopefully with a little bit of pictures and all.

  1. If your throat is still sore you should get it checked out. It sounds like you’ve had it more than three days so it could be strep.

Good luck on the home loan.
