Running Away…

I was sitting at my desk this morning, thinking about the day and I looked up to see four of my little chickens running away from home.

It was Buckaroo, Josh and two cuckoo hens.

Hmmm.  They were walking down the side of the busy road, and nearly off the property.  I’ve never seen them so far from the yard and house.

Of course, I went to the porch and called them.

And they came running back.

Little chicken dorks.

Playing by the side of the busy road.

Of course, something is luring them out there… further and further from the comfort of the fold.

It’s corn.

Free corn.

On the side of the road.

From all the farmer’s big trucks that go by fast and corn nuggets fly off if it’s too overloaded.  And then the cars swush them off to the side of the road.

And my chicken dorks rush out there to gather it up and scare the non-farm people whom think that they might run over and squish my chickens.  Of course, they are pretty good at getting out of the way, but still, I’m not too fond of squished chickens in front of the house.

I gave Bucka a good talking to.  After all, he is the head rooster around here and he really should be leading by good example and not falling for the whole free corn thing.

Because I have several beautiful little roos in the wings and he could be replaced.

He hurried back as quick as his little chicken legs could carry him!   Haha… he’s not about to lose his empire for a few kernels of corn!   Not even free corn…

At least, not today.

Silly chickens….
