Confession Time…

Okay. I have to get something off my chest.

The last week I have been feeling a little, well, guilty. No, very guilty. I am finding that my beloved little moby feels cramped. Tight… not enough space for all of us. All of the sudden, there seems to be more clutter and piles of things, papers and books, crafts out, legos, pet stuff, business overflow, rocks and all that. We are bumping into each other a great deal and the kitchen suddenly feels like a dorm room hot plate corner. AGH!

It’s all because of this.

And this…

To go from barely 800 square feet to over 2,000 square feet… well.. yeah. Nuff said.

And it just makes me feel awful!!! Well, kinda awful. Okay, okay, no, I’m looking forward to it! haha…

What puzzles me is that for the last couple years I have been SOOOO interested in small spaces. I love those little Tumbleweed homes and I like seeing people that live in trailers and yurts and all that. I still want a yurt, but like a bedroom yurt! Just a space for a few things. I kind of like the idea of the Big House being a little walk away. I like hot showers. Yeah, I do.

But all the sudden, I see our Moby overflowing with chaos at the moment. Now, it could be that we have an extra hound for the week… little Bella is here and we’ve had to use our dog crate a bit more for Evee and we have more stuff out… or it could be that we have been working on a few big work projects and we just had an Opry last night, so all that stuff is still out and all. But I woke up this morning and thought, “Oh my gosh I can not wait to move!”

And the guilt started immediately.

Maybe 800 square feet is a little cramped for 3 near adults, 3 dogs, 2 ferrets. one guinea pig, 3 cats, a company, oh yeah, 2 gerbils, 3 guitars, 2 banjos and 2 fiddles as well as a bunch of teenager stuff and crafts and all that. I am looking forward to spreading it out a little bit and getting back to a nice simple clean look. I hope. Maybe. Shesh…

Well at least we’ll have eight buildings to spread out on Windhaven….

  1. There are times when I have been known to say derisive things about McMansions. But the truth is, there is nothing wrong with space if the space serves a purpose. That rooms are not big, just to accomodate LARGER pieces of furniture with WIDER spaces to walk around the furniture. I went to buy a recliner last summer and I was shocked at the mamoth size of recliners these days!

Too big houses can be a status symbol and people are working their lives away to pay for them. Now you and your daughters, even if you didn’t count the land and buildings, are getting a decent house for $6 a square foot. YOU CAN AFFORD THE SPACE! It is a shame when people cannot really afford the space they are slaves to.

Besides, it is your work space, too. Don’t feel guilty for being a “wise home shopper”.

  2. As Nancy said, don’t feel guilty. You are doing this the right way, enjoy everything about this exciting process!
