A new Video… and a Name!

We took a little ride out to the farm today… the weather was nice enough… a crisp 45 degrees and sunshine…

Our friend Jan came along and our doggies, too! We had a lovely time. We tramped all around the place and made a little video… took a few pictures and just enjoyed our first official visitor! After we were done and frozen… we stopped at the little truck stop dinner in the next town over and enjoyed good down home cooking! A perfect day!

While we were there, we were thinking and talking about a name for the place… it’s been killing us, and we haven’t been able to find the right name. But as we were walking around, and the wind was blowing… we realized that every time we’ve been there, it’s always windy. Coming off the flat farm lands. And our place with it’s ring of big trees and such, it’s a little haven from the wind…. and all the sudden we all knew… Windhaven Farm. We love it! Hope you do too!

More pictures and commentary to come….

  1. LOVE the name! Totally enjoyed your video. I agree though, you really need to fence to protect your dogs (so nice to see Gypsy – I’ve wondered how she’s doing and she seems to be doing really great). Also, are there other dogs in the area? I would also want to protect my animals from any other loose dogs. Looking forward to seeing your vids and hearing all about your plans.

    • Thank you! Yeah, it just so fits the home… there is always a wind and stiff breeze coming through the place every time we’ve been there. SO much so then in the city.

Yes, Gypsy is doing SO good! She’s definitely elderly and the walk around the farm yesterday really tuckered her out. But she enjoyed it SO much. I am so happy to be able to give her a nice end to her life in an environment that is going to be so much fun and good activity is really awesome.

We haven’t seen any dogs, but I’m sure they are around. One of our more important goals is to quickly get a safe environment for the dogs to be able to be off leash in our property. I’d like to have a small potty yard area, that they could be off leash without us right there. But they won’t be out in the whole property without someone with them. Just think that’s better for when we have more livestock.

Going to be a lot of changes for sure, but good ones!

  2. Perfect. It will always be perfect, because you let the farm tell you what to call it. The name came to you after being there, and the name has a reason…a.meaning…that revealed itself to you. That’s why it was killing you before. You had to be there, knowing it was now really going to be yours, and you were open for the answer.

Listen to me. WoooHoo, don’t I sound spooky?! :-)

    • Oh I think you’re right on the money! I knew that we needed to just wait and let it happen… we had been through a zillion names and some were close, but not right. We liked the word haven, rather than a farm or acres or croft, etc., because to us it would be a haven.. a place of calm and rest… a home! As we were walking around, we were getting wind whipped and one of said, “wow, it’s always windy…” and then we just KNEW! It sounds good… and I think it will be a good name!

  4. Windhaven Farm…how appropriate. I can already see in my minds eye how lovely it will be. Oh…I hope you and your family will be very happy there and that the farm will give you that same enthusiasm, joy and satisfaction the Moby has.
Your story is too delightful to keep to myself, so I gave you a big plug over at “Homesteading Today”. Hope lots of the folks come over and visit you.

  5. I think that the Moby gave us the confidence and experience TO get the farm! Without that, we would have probably just kept dreaming, instead of making it happen!

    :-)

Thanks for the plug! We love visitors!!!
