Knitting Season officially opened last week here at the Moby estate. I love knitting when it starts to get a little cold out at night, and you’re done with your work early. Its time to curl up and watch a bunch of episodes of Deadliest Catch and knit.
I made a set of cotton socks for Jessy and a wash towel. Yep. Big deal I know. I’m not a big fancy knitter, I just like to knit simply. I love making fuzzy socks and washclothes, that’s about it. Simple and relaxing to me. And cheap too! You can get a ball of yarn for a few bucks and it lasts awhile and creates something useful. Win win situation, if you ask me.
I couldn’t find a good wool I liked to make up socks for Jess and so I used this cotton stuff but unfortunately, they are a little scratchy. She needs to wash them first. I think I’ll be sticking to wool for all my sockies. Just nicer. I don’t like to use acrylic yarn because, well, I’m not sure that the acrylics like having their wool shaved off them. I mean, I hear acrylic shearing time is dangerous and people and acrylics get hurt. No, not for me. (haha)
I like using wool because some day, along with my chickens, and a pony, I would like a few sheep. I think they are so cool. And it would be awesome to be able to raise my own wool… and spin it and all that fun stuff. I know it’s hard work, but it would still be super duper cool. Someday!
Haven’t been feeling so good the last day or two, having a flu like bug where everything just kind of is achey, and I’m off my feed a bit and feel like sleeping most the day and night. What’s really cool about how we work and live, I just take the time off if I need it. Drop down to half days and take a few extra naps. Been sort of watching Deadliest Catch episodes on Netflix and knitting a teeny bit, but it even feel achy to knit! This afternoon I’ve finally started to feel a little better and am checking my mail and just sort of putzing a bit. We’ve got a bunch of apples to cut up, and process, so I might be able to help supervise and take a few pictures of the whole effort… we’ll see! Got an Opry on Monday, so I do need to get my act together by then for sure! I think I’m there… getting there for sure.
I’m a little sad that the gardens are dying and finishing up, but actually, it’s a nice relief. I love the seasons, I really don’t mind taking a little break from the outside to let it all lay fallow for a while and give me a reason to knit and plan, work on a few indoor projects and to just take a little time for naps and good books. And the break makes it so exciting in the springtime to get ready for another great gardening season. 6 months or so is enough time for me. I find the last week or two of the garden season, I’m kinda tuckered out of it, and let some stuff go to waste, and get a little unruly. Just time for a break. I love the cold evenings and the fall colors… it’s a nice time of the year… Knitting Season is here!!!
