Gosh! First the Tiny House Blog and all the lovely books and now I find out that we won third place in the summer mobile home park most beautiful moby contest! Out of 200+ homes, I consider that a pretty nifty thing! We were just soooo excited! Got a big whopping $25 off lot rent and a certificate, suitable for framing! Gotta love that!

It’s been a nice little nod at what we’re doing here. Trying to show that mobies don’t have just be all weird colored and left to decay. They are nice little homes and you know, if that’s all you have, then you dance with the one that brought you, as I’d like to say. Make do with what you have and contentment will follow. I always like hearing from the old timers who talk about the depression as children… so many say, they didn’t know how bad it was or how thin they were living because it was all they knew and their folks did a good job of keeping them happy, fed and content. I think that’s why I don’t mind not having a TV and cable… or newspapers and all that. We get only one magazine at the house… a photography one that Jessy loves. That’s it. You have to be careful about all the “contentment stealers” you let into your home. TV commericals and magazines and such to show you what the media thinks you NEED to be SUCCESSFUL and HAPPY… too much of this and you’ll start to believe them all.

Discontentment is one of the worse things that you can let into your life. It robs you of all life’s happiness. Yep, even winning a mobile home contest or having a pretty little garden or just seeing beautiful birds at your feeder. You’ll want more and bigger and better and faster and newer and all, and pretty soon, you’re an unhappy mess.

I love that we got 3rd place in the contest. After all, we could have been 4th or 8th, or 27th…. First would have been nice, sure, but 3rd is wonderful and we feel blessed for the little nod from our neighbors. They said my neighbors nominated us. That’s so nice! That means a lot to me. We love our little old Moby. She’s #1 to us.
