Potato Grow Bag Update

The grow bags are now full of dirt and potatoes.

I would say that each of the grow bags has about 6 bags of dirt in it… that’s 240 pounds of dirt in each bag!!! Shesh!

As you can see, the potatoes are going to town…. they apparently adore the bags and the location at the end of the moby. It’s got pretty good sun until about 2 pm and then it’s a little shady in the heat of the afternoon.

Still working on what grows good, where on the moby homestead… I already have a few successes and a few failures… but that’s okay. You need to learn your land and the first year, well, it can be tough. We have a very shady area that we are growing in on one side of the moby, so I need to really take that into account. The peas and beans are loving it… and the cabbage is doing well too. I probably would have done better planting lettuce and spinach over there. I just might be doing a little transplanting and moving about of a couple plants….

I’ve heard on quite a few blogs that people are not having much success with the potatoes in tires and built up beds and growbags. I wonder why. Everyone seems to say that by mounding more dirt around the stems encourages more tater growth, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

All I know is that they are REALLY growing well, lots of nice top green growth… and a couple are flowering already. Sweeet.
