First Harvest – June 20, 2009

One of my favorite blogs likes to keep track of the poundage that comes off their 1/10th urban garden… I think I’m going to do that this year…

So… here is my first harvest of the year… probably a little bit jumping the gun but I saw sugar pea pods and I just couldn’t help myself! And I yanked a pair of onions to see how they are doing…

My first harvest…. 3 ounces!!!! YEAH!!!

Since I’ve spent about, oh $500 this year to install my 500 square feet of gardens… wow, a dollar a foot… that’s really not that bad you know… next year will be WAY WAY lower… oops…. lost my train of thought there… okay, so, $500 for 3 ounces… wow… that’s about oh $166 dollars an ounce peas and onions there!

Well, there’s a lot more coming…. but it was so stinkin’ rewarding to warm up those peas and slice the onions and simmer them in a little homemade butter…. wow…. my first meal…. er, ahem… side dish from the Moby farm!!! The girls were impressed and watched, they’re not into peas or onions much, so they let me have the first couple bites of the success of our little endeavor! (They are wonderful kids like that…)

Can’t wait to see what another week or two brings to the table… literally!
