A rare picture of myself because so often I’m the one taking the pictures! But Jessy is a fantastic photographer and loves to take shots… and she has a new iPod and that thing takes pretty nice photos! So here is a little selection of pictures that Jessy took on Wednesday of the spring time farm and our little goaties… and the sheep baby bumps!!! It’s getting nicer… high 40’s, even up to low 50’s… and sunshine. Oh my gosh, we all love that rare thing… the sun!!!!
I hear we are to have a nice weekend, and then Monday and Tuesday might be a little cold, but that’s okay, I suppose. Spring in northern Ohio can be that way. I’m just excited to see daffodils poking out of the ground and the sun shining! And of course, farm critters enjoying themselves in the nice weather!!!
Daisy and Buttercup are doing so well. They are so fun to have here. We give them a little run around time when we are out doing chores and it’s just fun to have them around for sure.
It’s the goat go-round… they love playing on the fire pit wall. Around and around they go….
And they also like to try and knock each other off the wall.
Usually Buttercup wins… being that she’s 2 months old and Daisy is only 2 weeks old. Kind of unfair. But Daisy wins sometimes because Buttercup is over confident and over-extends herself!
They also love to climb on the windchime tree! I suspect as they get bigger, they will get braver and we will have goats all over the thing in no time! For now, they need a little help to get up there but once they are up, they are so surefooted!
Just like a goat!
Oh my goodness…. poor Iris. She has got to have twins… and her sister Ivy is packing two big baby bumps as well!!!! It won’t be long…
Momma Noel’s bump seems a little one sided, she might just have a single lamb. Guess time will tell!!! Baby watch officially starts on April 1st… Easter! Wouldn’t it be a sweet thing to have babies for Easter? I suspect it will be a little longer, since the 1st of November was when Gideon was introduced to the herd and I rather doubt someone was in heat that day. I suppose it’s possible, but more than likely, his arrival would have triggered their heat cycles and we’re looking at another week or two before any likely arrivals!
Maggie being used as a goat toy…. she doesn’t mind at all!
I thought this picture was cute… She was taking pictures of little Daisy sleeping on her lap, but in the background, she got Buttercup and I working on our chores! Haha….
One of our anti-mud projects! We laid down this little stepping stone patio around the main trough and water pump. It was getting very very nasty and sucking our boots off. We laid down a little straw and then the pavers and some stone. I think we are going to go around the other side with one layer of steps as well, just to make it complete. It works great! And it only cost $15 so far! Not too bad. We are slowly trying to address the really bad areas of mud and correct them if possible, making better drainage and using stone and pavers to help out. It’s not too bad yet… but if we get a few rainy days, it will get nasty. Trying to tackle them before it’s all out mud-war!!!!
Isn’t this a kinda of fun picture? All the ewes lined up and having lunch.
Momma Noel is looking rather pensive. She’s probably thinking ahead of the future of her new lamb and how things will turn out in this turbulent society of ours…
Or she’s thinking about snacks.
Hard to tell with sheep.
Pierre and his ladies are enjoying the sunbathing in the little coop… They are pretty funny, digging holes all over in the coop yards and flip flopping around in the dirt. I want to get a couple kid pools this year and fill them with sand and diatomaceous earth for their bathing pleasure. Keeps the mites down, too! (And it will be pretty amusing Chicken TV I figure.)
I’m starting to do a little painting, when the temps are high enough. I have big plans and many gallons of lovely mistinted paint! Actually this gate was originally a battered orange. Now, half of it is spray painted plum. I ran out of paint pretty quickly. I guess I will get another can and finish the gate but after that, no more spray paint!
The plan is to paint a few doors and gates and such with nice rich colors, in greens, blues and purples… with white to pop out doorways and such. A touch of colorful whimsy for sure. We’ll see how that goes!
Such a nice time… I sure hope we get more nice days than bad… already the place is looking fantastic and it’s been far less messy than I thought! Just a couple good days of effort already have all the winter junk taken care of and we’re even getting a little time to just sit around and soak up some sunshine ourselves!!! It’s fantastic!!!! More, please!!!!

Today the first day we had sun and no snow. I line dried my blankets. Then I had to smell them a whole bunch, becasue oh my god line dried blankets smell like the wind and the grasses and sunshine. Yeah. I think I am ready for spring.
