We planned on going out to see how the local garage sales are in our new area. It’s been forever since we really did a good day of garage saling. Just been too busy or too broke or both! Haha… But we planned to go today, and were all ready and up fairly early and then… it started to rain. And rain. And rain some more.
But we couldn’t really work in the yard and didn’t have any orders to fill, nothing much to do inside but turn eggs and nap, so we thought, what the heck, let’s go! At the very least we’d get out a bit and have a little lunch maybe.
Actually, it turned out to be a great garage sale day! Everyone was in a dealing mood and we got a ton of things, just amazing deals! It was wet in and out of old Blue, but we would just wait for a little break in the drops and dash in and look. We got to chat with the garage sale folks a bit while it poured and we made some delicious deals.
We only had $50 and we even managed to get a cheap lunch off the dollar menu at McD’s AND got 2 quarts of fresh strawberries from a sweet Mennonite lady at a stand. Oh yes, and a pair of ice cream cones!
Since we moved to this HUGE 2,000 square foot house from our beloved little 800 square foot Moby, we have a sort of lack of decor and furniture. Now, we’re not necessarily looking to junk it up with a ton of stuff, as we’re not that into cleaning and dusting and all that. However, the place does look a little pale and empty in places. So one of the things we are hunting for are perfectly us sorts of decor bits. Pictures, a few shelves, knick-knacks etc.
Maggie scored a perfectly fine low square coffee table for her lair. I believe she’s turning it into a Lego base, as the kid loves to play with Legos and has a HUGE collection of such. Jessy got a neat little color tv for 10 dollars! She wanted one for her bedroom so that she could hook up one of the game consoles to it and play games on it. (Yes, my daughters still play… which is kind of fun, really.)
I got a couple nice pictures, one of a funny hen and then four cool old prints of cats. Breeds of cats. They look like screen prints, they are pretty cool. Got a huge quilting hoop, 50 cents. And a couple neat jars and a box of old dominos. Not sure why, but they were really pretty, old and just, well, felt good. 75 cents. Oh, yes and a waste paper basket for my office and 4 huge boxes of shells. We sell shells through the rock and mineral company, so those will find their way into kits I’m sure. Found 3 cute as heck little birdhouses that we want to put in the kitchen, on those wooden poles in the middle. Thought that would be fun.
Now the girls might not agree, but my favorite deal was a pair of decent winter coats, nice ones, hardly worn, that fit both children… $3 each! I mean nice, 50-60 dollar coats! One is a great barn coat, a bit long with those little corduroy collars and big pockets for eggs and gloves. The other is a pretty plum parka that has fancy labels in it. Okay, summer is not the time to be thinking about winter coats, but I can tell, we are definitely going to have to bulk up out here at Windhaven… the winter winds are going to be tougher than in the city!
As we were driving around, we stumbled upon a little ice cream place, just a few miles from the farm! Yeah! My children are ice cream fanatics and they missed not being able to visit their local soft serve shrine in the city. They each got a cone and decided it was the best they’ve had out here in the country, perfect! So it was a great day all the way around!!!

Sounds like a fun day and you got some neat stuff!
Sherri…you have a gift for making memories.
(:
You got some really good deals. I always check for winter clothes and boots at yard sales. I bought a pair of like new UGG boots and a like new pair of muck boots at a yard sale last week for $1 each. The winter clothes and boots will be non-existent OR much more expensive at yard sales when it gets closer to winter time.
