We decided that we wanted to start making our own butter. Just because it sounds like fun. Not really necessarily to save money or anything, just that homemade tastes really good and it’s kinda fun too. We made up a plan… we call it Movie Butter.
We pop a movie in the DVD and throw the heavy cream into our butter jar. And then everyone get a chance to shake it while we’re watching… it really doesn’t take long… and it’s kinda fun…
Funny thing…. that just gentle normal rocking works just fine. It doesn’t have to be shaken to death or anything. Just time and some consistancy. That’s the cool part. Maggie would like to make it a race, but in the end, it’s about the same.
Then once it clumps up in a ball, we rinse it in cold water for a bit and press out the last buttermilk out. (The buttermilk is a great by-product… it makes the BEST biscuits and breads!!!) Once it’s clean, you just add a teaspoon of salt and mix it good and pop in the fridge… we had to slice up some bread and toast it up with the homemade butter while we finished watching this documentary on the Amish teenagers that go nuts before they accept the church and lifestyle… wild stuff… of course, not all do it, but a lot do the rumspringa… smoke and drink and drive cars and all that English temptations and all… crazy movie!
