Doggie Games

Evee and Ratchet are so funny to watch.

Apparently, both are starved for doggie attention, so they are trying to cram as much doggie fun time into each day as caninely possible. Which means playing about 22 hours a day. And of course, napping somewhere in there to regain their strength.

They have three distinct games they play. After watching them in pure contented amusement this morning, I had to document the various games.

Grab My Leg…

Grab my leg is a game that mimics big horn sheep head butting or perhaps elephant pushing contests. The idea is to try and grab your opponent’s front leg while they are attempting to grab your front leg. There is involved a good deal of play growling, slobbering and of course shoving and trying to knock your opponent over. Grab My Leg usually spills over into Roll Around Like Dorks game.

Roll Around Like Dorks

In this game, the object seems to be who can look more foolish. Both participants end up on their back, with legs in the air, wiggling and twisting and just being total happy dorks. Head and body butting are desirable and keep the game in play. If properly aligned, the game players can also use their front feet to paw at each other’s head’s until someone get hurt. This game often turns into You Hurt My Feelings and it will end abruptly.

Who’s Taller?

This game is played very rough and involves each of the participants to leap up and rear up like enraged circus ponies to see who shall be on whom’s back. There is a lot of pawing at each other, a lot of twirling around to get away from the other’s attempt to jump on your back and a few awkward moments when near romantic positions are obtained. Since no one is in season, those moments are usually met with someone getting snapped at and the game dissolves. But only for a few moments until a second round of Grab My Leg begins with great enthusiasm!

Evee is the queen at Who’s Taller and she will work hard to even use furniture in her effort to be the top gal. She launched herself off the wingback chair in this amazing move later this morning that I wished I had captured on film! Or, well, digital…. haha… it was the work of a Russian gymnast! Ratchet never knew what hit him and pretty quickly they celebrated her stunning victory with a round of Roll around like Dorks and then took a 2 hour nap.

Needless to say, they are really enjoying each other’s presence for sure!

We took Ratchet over to the family reunion, later on in the evening, because his first family really wanted to see him again. Rob and his girls were all there to visit and so we went down and brought him back. Maggie and Miss Julia were a little worried that Ratchet might be a bit confused, but you know, he took it in stride. He visited and he had a good time, but he was super eager to jump in the car and ride home with Maggie, his new mom. I was glad, she might have been upset if he wanted to stay. But I think he’s very happy and just such a good mellow boy, he knows that he’s got the best of both worlds! He can visit his first family now and then, and he has a new family to enjoy, too! What a lucky boy!
